  12. I am starting to set up a home theater (bit-by-bit). Eventually it will
  13. include ...
  14.     29-35" TV
  15.     VCR (VHS or S-VHS, with Hi-Fi sound and MTS Stereo)
  16.     A/V Receiver (Pro Logic Surround Sound)
  17.     Speakers (rears and center and either full-range mains or sub-
  18.          woofer with more modest mains)
  19.     Combi (audio and video) disc player

  21. For a variety of reasons (existing stuff), I'm going to start with the
  22. VCR. I do expect to do a lot of time shifting and to view rental tapes.
  23. I do not own or plan to buy a camera and I do not expect to do any video
  24. editing. If I buy a S-VHS unit, it is necessary that it be able to both
  25. record and play standard VHS. I am considering the following VCRs and
  26. would greatly appreciate comments from folks who have experience with
  27. these units. Since I HATE to take equipment in for any sort of repairs,
  28. I am also very interested in comments on repair records. Information on
  29. cost and suppliers would also be helpful.
  30.     Mitsubishi
  31.     HS-U57, U67 and U82 (Do I infer correctly that the 82 does not
  32.                 yet incorporate some of the convenience
  33.                 features of the 57 and 67?)
  34.     Panasonic
  35.     PV-4262, 4264, S4266, S4270
  36.     Sony
  37.     SLV-585HF, 595HF, 696HF, R5UC (Again, Do I infer correctly that
  38.                       the R5 does not yet incorporate
  39.                       some of the convenience features
  40.                       of the VHS models?)
  41. Lastly, in case it would help in commenting on the above, I am considering
  42. the following equipment for the rest of my home theater...
  43.     TV: Mitsubishi or Panasonic (Gaoo) or Sony (XBR or XBR**2)
  44.           (Can the "main" speakers on any of these sets be used
  45.           as the Pro Logic center speaker?)
  46.     A/V Receiver: Sony (maybe ES) or Yamaha (RX-V850 or ???) or ???
  47.           (Should I be influenced by the existance or not of a
  48.           sub-woofer output on the receiver?)
  49.     Speakers:  Don't have a clue!
  50.     Disc Player:  Panasonic LX-1xx or Sony 455 or ???
