- While reading article <1992Dec24.001446.7659@galileo.cc.rochester.edu>, I noticed that
- hm002b@uhura.cc.rochester.edu (PRIMUS SUCKS!) said the following:
- >Well if it is new you should get a new unit or have it serviced. I am going
- >to let Sony try to fix mine. They are coming to pick it up on Monday. From
- >the few replies that I got it seems like this problem does exsist in MANY
- >Sony sets and most people can NOT hear this HF (high frequency) emission. I
- >am not sure if your TV is having the same type of problem my TV gives off
- >the sound all of the time, and it is annoying as all hell. I can not beleive
- >Sony would release such a flawed piece of equipment, it is pathetic
- >especially when you consider the fact that I spent about 200 bucks extra for
- >the Sony over others in its class. Ohh well, I guess I got screwed.
- >PS
-
- Sony does have this problem in some sets; however your service person should
- have a TSB on it which solves it in most cases, and that's simply applying
- a small amount of silicone adhesive to a few places in the set, eliminating
- the resonance that you hear. My local Sony person did it while he was in
- my home fixing an unrelated problem with my 27XBR15 and I haven't had to
- endure a ~18kHz whine since...
