  20. S-VHS is not dead.  It simply hasn't caught the average consumer's
  21. interest.  S-VHS like beta has been accepted as a professional and
  22. semi-pro video system.  Many editing studios are replacing their
  23. 3/4 inch decks with S-VHS.  I like my Mitsubishi U82 a lot, and my
  24. JVC 6600 is a decent high end consumer deck.  That's not to say
  25. I wouldn't still be pro-beta if I could find beta tape locally.
  26. And I'm not likely to ever get to use an ED-beta deck, so I'll be
  27. happy with what I've got.

  29. I have an old laserdisk player (Sony ldp1000A) which puts out a fine
  30. picture.  I've found that recordings on SVHS using a laserdisk source
  31. are not quite as crisp as the original laserdisk, but I had to use
  32. a side by side comparison to really find the difference.  I will
  33. continue to buy disk over tape for that reason and also for the
  34. durability factor.

  36. SVHS is great for editing.  I transfer 8mm camera footage to SVHS-SP
  37. then edit down to SVHS-EP.  Now I just need a mixer between the 8mm
  38. camera and the S-deck.
