- S-VHS is not dead. It simply hasn't caught the average consumer's
- interest. S-VHS like beta has been accepted as a professional and
- semi-pro video system. Many editing studios are replacing their
- 3/4 inch decks with S-VHS. I like my Mitsubishi U82 a lot, and my
- JVC 6600 is a decent high end consumer deck. That's not to say
- I wouldn't still be pro-beta if I could find beta tape locally.
- And I'm not likely to ever get to use an ED-beta deck, so I'll be
- happy with what I've got.
-
- I have an old laserdisk player (Sony ldp1000A) which puts out a fine
- picture. I've found that recordings on SVHS using a laserdisk source
- are not quite as crisp as the original laserdisk, but I had to use
- a side by side comparison to really find the difference. I will
- continue to buy disk over tape for that reason and also for the
- durability factor.
-
- SVHS is great for editing. I transfer 8mm camera footage to SVHS-SP
- then edit down to SVHS-EP. Now I just need a mixer between the 8mm
- camera and the S-deck.
