-
- I too have a U82. It runs circles around my JVC 6600. But at least
- I got the 6600 before JVC replaced it with that cheapened 6800.

-
- All 4 points should be heeded by Mitsubishi. I'm always wishing
- companies had consulted me before completing their designs.
-
- I decided to not sell my JVC 6600 because it allows Index marks to
- be erased and written anywhere on the pre-recorded tape
-
- The idea to switch from scanning to fast forward/reverse by turning
- the shuttle ring was dumb. If I want the machine to go to fast wind
- mode, I'll stop the tape and press the appropriate button.
- This 'feature' is only on the remote and not a problem when using the
- main jog/shuttle control for more serious editing.
-
- The bit about switching the antenna could be a feature instead
- of a disadvantage. Sure it would be nice to have the antenna
- feed straight through at all times. But by cutting off the RF,
- interference was also attenuated. I wish my JVC 6600 didn't
- automatically switch on the RF converter each
- time the play button is pressed. I keep having to turn it off
- to reduce any chance of RFI leaking through my mass of cables.
-
- Another complaint about both machines is that when I'm in the
- record mode and use the jog/shuttle to review/edit the last
- bit of recording, I don't like the machine automatically dropping
- out of edit mode and returning to record-pause mode. I want the
- machine to stay in edit mode until I tell it otherwise. The
- time out period for editing is much too short.
-
- In a related complaint, the Mits won't play the audio with
- video when using the shuttle ring. The JVC 6600 will play
- the tape in 'play' mode when using the shuttle ring to review.
-
- A big yellow pause indicator, a big green play indicator and a
- more easily seen record indicator would be a great improvement.
- And I'd like to see text replace the little round lights
- indicating tracking, SVHS, insert, etc. And not just on/off
- lights but a red light to indicate status 'off' and a green light
- to indicate status 'on'.
-
- In the dreaming of a better world category - I wish designers
- would design audio/video hardware to be used easily in the dark.
- The Mits and JVC remote controls have layouts that are fairly
- good for dark-room conditions. But most equipment can't be
- used without a little more than the glow from a TV.
-
-
- If only I could replace the 6600's innards with Mits hardware,
- then the machine would be about right. I love the Mits for
- 1-2 frame accuracy simple editing. And will buy another when
- I can afford that along with an MX50 mixer.
-
-
- Is all this too much to ask? :)
