- FWIW: I watch Siskel & Ebert about once a month. This week, I noticed that
- they had a segment at the end called "LaserDisc pick of the month".
-
- This was sponsored by Pioneer (surprise!), and consisted of a review
- of an LD that they rated highly. This month's pick was a Chaplin collection
- that I wasn't particularly interested in, so I didn't pay much attention.
-
- But, I think this is indicative of the growing popularity of LD. S&E usually
- have a "Video pick" on each show, and I think the LD review took the place of
- that. Since I'm not a regular viewer, I don't know how long the LD reviews
- have been going on.
-
- Also, the LD segment was followed by a Pioneer LD player ad -- the first time
- that I've seen LD's advertised on TV.
-
- As we've discussed, the change in LD from a collectors' medium to a mass
- medium may have mixed implications, but I think this is one more data point.
