- While it's not dead, it--along with ED Beta--suffers in a market driven by
- consumers who think that the delta in cost (hardware and tapes) is not
- justified by the "marginal" gain in picture quality. Most people either can't
- see the difference, or just can't appreciate it.
- Face it, the VTR market is driven by the casual consumer who truly doesn't
- care about image quality. Low cost and adequate performance...that's all
- they ask for and get. So, it is my guess that the S-VHS market has reached
- it's peak; there just aren't too many serious, amatuer videographers. (Proof:
- Beta, in all of it's subformats, failed to dominate the market :-) )
- By the way, S-VHS does not "give a better picture than even a LaserDisc
- player"! And, I'm very happy to say that I don't own a S-VHS VCR!
