  19. Does anyone know anything about the new Kodak Photo CD system?  What I am
  20. really curious about has anyone heard about using this technology on a
  21. computer?

  23. The CD is a WORM unit.  In theory they could be produced by a WORM drive
  24. attached to a computer.  You could read in a KODAK CD, edit it, and write out 
  25. many copies.

  27. The resolution on the Photo CD is much higher than what it can display on a
  28. NTSC TV today.  It would be interesting to use a PC or workstation with a high
  29. resolution color monitor to display the images.  Anyone heard of software yet
  30. to do this?

  36.     I have heard that APPLE supports the KODAK PHOTO CD format with system
  37.     7.1. I do not know what level of support that is. They probably have a 
  38.     driver that can read KODAK files.

  40.     I'd be interested in knowing if the format is TIFF. That would be neat,
  41.     I could import pictures at high resolution. Probably cheaper than
  42.     buying a high res. scanner.

  48.     The announcements are that Apple Macintosh systems will read and
  49.     display Photo-CD images.  It may be possible on System 7.0 if you pick
  50.     up the new CD-ROM Drivers (which I haven't done yet), and you may also
  51.     need the current Quicktime as well.  The image format is reported to be
  52.     unique, and not TIFF, but existing programs are supposed to be able to
  53.     display the images with the correct system software installed.  I don't
  54.     have any Photo-CDs, so I haven't tried it myself, but people have
  55.     reported that it works.

  57.     Old CD-ROM drives will only read single-session Photo-CDs, or the first
  58.     session only from multi-session CDs.  The newest Apple (Sony) and NEC
  59.     drives are able to read multi-session.  It isn't entirely clear which,
  60.     if any, older CD-ROM drives will be able to read multi-session CDs with
  61.     updated software.
