- It's quite true that there is no pre-recorded software in the S-VHS format.
- There probably never will be before some digital/HDTV format renders all
- current VCRs obsolete. But I suspect S-VHS is doing ok in the market,
- because it is a backwards-compatible machine that provides noticably
- superior quality for only marginally more money. S-VHS is great for
- time shifting (especially in the EP speed) and for dubbing from hi-8
- camcorders. I believe S-VHS was introduced in the US in 1987. It is
- far from dead.
