- First of all VHS-C has 30 minute tapes, and longer versions are supposedly
- on the way. Also, everyone here seems to complain that 30 minutes is way
- too short. I don't know what most people use their camcorders for, but I
- use mine to record birthdays, Christmas, vacations, etc. I can't imagine
- wanting to shoot 2 hours of raw footage for those kinds of functions.
-
- If you want to shoot an event, like a wedding, then the 30 minute format
- might be limiting. It depends on your needs.
-
- As for resolution, I only own a VHS VCR, so, the picture quality of my
- camcorder looks great to me!
-
- Also, from what I understand, Hi-8 suffers from dropout if played too
- much, which pretty much requires you to copy the tape onto S-VHS or VHS
- for frequent viewing.
-
- Now, having said that, I wish I had bought Hi8 since it seems to have
- better editing features than the VHS-C camera (wimpy synchro edit vs.
- Ctrl-L). Also, dubbing between Hi8 and S-VHS should hold up better
- over multi-generation copies. Keep editing features in mind, since raw
- footage does get pretty boring, and more than one or two generations
- for VHS start to look pretty bad, even to me!
