- I no longer play rental tapes on any unit I "care" about. (My R5, for
- example.) Why? A couple of years ago, while watching a tape from
- BlockBuster (evil!) the picture went all kablowie. So I pulled the
- tape out and discovered, much to my horror, that somebody had patched
- a broken vcr tape with *scotch tape* by wrapping a few winds around
- the break in the video tape. Who knows what damage that did to my deck?
-
- Since then, I only play rentals on "who cares" units, which have
- included: $200 BrokSonic deck, an ancient Toshiba, and my S8000 (which
- was recovered after having been stolen and spending a year going from
- pawn shop to pawn shop).
