  10. Two months ago, I flew to Europe for the first time...to meet my penpal for the
  11. first time (we've been writing for over eleven years)...
  12.  
  13. He lives in Athens, Greece...and to make a long story short, I had a fantastic
  14. time over there!  I'm considering flying back again this summer...but I'd like
  15. to stay longer than three weeks (which was how long my November trip lasted).

  17. I'd like to try to get a job there (to pay for the trip and to pay for rent,
  18. etc.).  If any of you out there have done this, can you please tell me your
  19. stories so I can get an idea of what I should and shouldn't do?

  21. Possibly important personal characteristics, etc:
  22.       - I'm a 23 year old male
  23.       - US citizen w/ valid passport
  24.       - I speak English and Spanish...but *not* much Greek
  25.       - I have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (minor in Physics)
  26.       - date of departure (from the US) is currently anywhere between
  27.            May and August!

  29. If I can get a permanent engineering type job over there, I'd love to stay for
  30. years!  But somehow I have the feeling I'd never find such employment.  What I
  31. *do* expect to be able to find is a job teaching english, or a job being a 
  32. waiter, etc...

  34. For a short term trip (oh, say, less than 4 months) I'd be able to stay with my
  35. penpal in his (parents') house in Nea Filadelfia.  For anything longer than
  36. that, I'd *HATE* to impose on them!

  41. NOTE: I do *not* want to get employed on any islands...or in any city other
  42.       than Athens.  I'd really like to be able to get to/from work/home in
  43.       less than 45 mins (if I had to take the Metro).
