- Two months ago, I flew to Europe for the first time...to meet my penpal for the
- first time (we've been writing for over eleven years)...
-
- He lives in Athens, Greece...and to make a long story short, I had a fantastic
- time over there! I'm considering flying back again this summer...but I'd like
- to stay longer than three weeks (which was how long my November trip lasted).
-
- I'd like to try to get a job there (to pay for the trip and to pay for rent,
- etc.). If any of you out there have done this, can you please tell me your
- stories so I can get an idea of what I should and shouldn't do?
-
- Possibly important personal characteristics, etc:
- - I'm a 23 year old male
- - US citizen w/ valid passport
- - I speak English and Spanish...but *not* much Greek
- - I have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (minor in Physics)
- - date of departure (from the US) is currently anywhere between
- May and August!
-
- If I can get a permanent engineering type job over there, I'd love to stay for
- years! But somehow I have the feeling I'd never find such employment. What I
- *do* expect to be able to find is a job teaching english, or a job being a
- waiter, etc...
-
- For a short term trip (oh, say, less than 4 months) I'd be able to stay with my
- penpal in his (parents') house in Nea Filadelfia. For anything longer than
- that, I'd *HATE* to impose on them!
-
- advTHANKSance!

-
- NOTE: I do *not* want to get employed on any islands...or in any city other
- than Athens. I'd really like to be able to get to/from work/home in
- less than 45 mins (if I had to take the Metro).
