- When I did this in Seattle, the whole process, including filling
- in the forms at the passport office, took under two hours, and
- the passport was in the mail the next day. I did not request
- urgent service, as my departure was still several months away.
-
- My documentaion consisted of my expired passport and my driver's
- license. This was good both for the passport itself and for the
- out-of-town check I wrote to pay the fee.
-
- The only problem I had with the waiting room was that the chairs
- were so softly upholstered it was hard to sit up straight and
- write legibly while filling in the forms. I should have picked
- up the forms at the local post office, since they're the same
- forms used in-office, but I renewed on the spur of the moment
- when I had some extra time downtown.
-
- I got my photos just outside the Federal Building at a passport
- photo office. They are set up to take photos to the passport
- office's specifications using a Polaroid passport camera -- under
- 10 minutes door to door.
-
- The only person I saw treated badly came in without documentation
- of any kind and refused to wait in line, then insisted on
- same-day processing. After asking him politely to follow the
- normal procedure, they asked him (less politely) to leave the
- building.
