  35. When I did this in Seattle, the whole process, including filling
  36. in the forms at the passport office, took under two hours, and
  37. the passport was in the mail the next day.  I did not request
  38. urgent service, as my departure was still several months away.

  40. My documentaion consisted of my expired passport and my driver's
  41. license.  This was good both for the passport itself and for the
  42. out-of-town check I wrote to pay the fee.

  44. The only problem I had with the waiting room was that the chairs
  45. were so softly upholstered it was hard to sit up straight and
  46. write legibly while filling in the forms.  I should have picked
  47. up the forms at the local post office, since they're the same
  48. forms used in-office, but I renewed on the spur of the moment
  49. when I had some extra time downtown.

  51. I got my photos just outside the Federal Building at a passport
  52. photo office.  They are set up to take photos to the passport
  53. office's specifications using a Polaroid passport camera -- under
  54. 10 minutes door to door.

  56. The only person I saw treated badly came in without documentation
  57. of any kind and refused to wait in line, then insisted on
  58. same-day processing.  After asking him politely to follow the
  59. normal procedure, they asked him (less politely) to leave the
  60. building.
