  12. Greetings fellow travellers! I'm planning a short trip to Portugal at the
  13. end of March. I like walking/climbing, good food and Authentic Experiences(tm).
  14. Since Scotland is miserably cold in winter, I'd like a taste of sun and
  15. warmth too. With all this in mind, I'm thinking of starting in Lisbon,
  16. nipping down to the Algarve and then back to Lisbon via the plains north of
  17. the Algarve, perhaps as far as the mountains NW of Lisbon.

  19. I hope to do this on a very small budget (they don't pay us enough here, but
  20. then who does?!), in about a week, using a free flight I won in a raffle.

  22. I'd be very grateful for any info from people who've travelled in Portugal
  23. recently. In particular, info/experiences regarding the following would be
  24. most appreciated:

  26. a)    Car Hire - cheap? Cautionary tales ...
  27. b)    Accommodation: good but cheap places to stay (esp Lisbon/Algarve). 
  28.     Camping - I read most places supply tent in the fee. Should I bring
  29.     a tent of my own? 
  30. c)    Interesting places to visit off the tourist track - touristy bits I
  31.     can find through my guidebook (which did you use?). 
  32. d)    Walking - dramatic scenery to be found .. where?
  33. e)    Nightlife - presumably whilst I'm in Lisbon or the Algarve - any
  34.     good bars/clubs you'd recommend for meeting the locals?
