- I'm leaving in three weeks for a month-long trip to Costa Rica. I plan
- to do the normal budget/independent travel thing, and want to spend most
- of my time hiking and backpacking in the national parks, rainforests,
- volcanoes, and along the coast. I want to travel as light as possible
- (a 3500 cubic inch backpack, no more than 35 lbs), but still can't decide
- whether to take camping equipment (tent/stove/pad) along in order to be
- able to do longer trips into the parks, or just plan on staying at
- cheap hotels and doing dayhikes.
-
- Has anyone on the net spent much time in the Costa Rica backcountry?
- Did you take backpacking gear, and if so, did you use it enough for it
- to be worth carrying?
-
- Also, I've gotten some conflicting advice about bringing raingear. I
- was planning to take a goretex jacket and pants, but a couple of people
- have told me that it'll be way too hot and humid. Any thoughts?
-
- Lastly, Someone recommended bringing knee-high goretex socks to wear on
- muddy rainforest trails, as an alternative to buying rubber boots once
- I'm down there. Does this sound like a worthwhile idea?
-
- Thanks,
-
- Steve
