- The rail network is not as dense as in Northern Europe, nor is service as
- frequent. The combination of bus and train will get you to most places,
- but infrequent service and poor connections will cost you time. I didn't
- rent a car when I was in Spain, but I had to rule out some destinations
- because they would have involved overnight stops enroute; you will often
- find that your train or bus arrives in city xyz after the last (or only)
- train for city abc has departed.

- I would strongly recommend some destinations near Madrid: Segovia,
- Toledo, Salamanca, El Escorial, Avila (sorry, no accents). No beaches,
- but you'll always be able to see another beach, while some of the things
- you'll see in Spain exist nowhere else. There are lots of places I've
- seen once and loved them, but don't feel the need to go back; but if
- someone told me I'd never be able to go back to Spain, it would break my
- heart.
