- I stayed at the International Student House on Keizergracht 15, Centrum. It
- was 28 Hfl/day with breakfast for a quad room, clean showers at the end of
- the hall and a great location, 10 minute walk with luggage from Centraal
- Station. We passed by tons of hotels, as we were 'shopping' for a good one,
- and they all seemed nice in the Centrum district, though we settled on ISH
- because it was cheaper than a 'hotel' (which start at 50 Hfl/day but have
- baths). WHatever you do, unless you want to experience Woodstock The Next
- Generation, avoid the 'Sleep In'. It's a backpacker,hippie-like atmosphere
- and tons of youngsters in the 16-24 range, which is fine, fine fine, but I
- wanted to get some sleep and it's noisy and dirty, with 200+ people in a
- room full of bunkbeds, but it's 13 Hfl/day including a locker. Try the
- Christian 'Eben Hauzer' for a mellow, quiet, cheap (15 Hfl) night. They
- aren't too pushy about religion, but they do have a 12:30am curfew, which
- stinks in Amsterdam for 'partiers' (most clubs don't even start getting
- busy 'til 12). I liked most of the advice in a book called 'The Real Guide
- to Amsterdam'. It was quirky but accurate and candid as well, though they
- had too much praise for 'Sleep In' if ya ask me...
-
- Cheers,
- Well Brendan, that's what THE SHELTER was, a backpacker, hippie-like atmosphere
- with tons of youngsters in the 16-24 range. By the way, what do you call those
- above 24, "oldster" ?
-
- Actually, I managed to sleep pretty comfortably in the Shelter.
