  12.    My wife and I will be making a trip to visit her parents
  13. in Taiwan over Chinese New Year.  Our flight returns via Narita, and
  14. Daphne has a cousin that is a student in Kobe.  When we called her
  15. aunt and uncle to find out how expensive it would be to visit, they
  16. replied "Don't worry about the money"  [Don't you wish you had
  17. relatives like that -- Daphne's parents are sending us to Hong Kong
  18. for clothes shopping before the Chinese New Year.  Sorry, can't resist
  19. gloating -- us poor grad students don't get much travel fun]
  20.  
  21.   Anyway, we'll arrive in Narita mid afternoon on 5 Feb, and
  22. leave late evening on 9 Feb.  My questions are:
  23.  
  24.     1)   How long does customs take?  My wife is on a Taiwan passport,
  25. I am an American.
  26.  
  27.     2)   How are luggage storage facilities in Narita?  Since we'll
  28. have the stuff from our Hong Kong trip, plus whatever junk her mother
  29. gives her, I figure that we'll have a lot of luggage that would be a
  30. pain to carry around for the few days that we're there.

  32.     3)   How about the train from Narita to Tokyo?  I saw a newspaper
  33. article recently stating that the train was often sold out far in
  34. advance.  We'll be getting a Japan rail pass while in Taiwan (courtesy
  35. of aunt and uncle).  Should we attempt train reservations then? - 
  36. which is why we need an estimate of how long customs takes.

  38.    Since I don't know how long it will take to get to the downtown
  39. Tokyo train station ( I hear a long time), we'll probably spend the
  40. first night in Tokyo near the train station (again, courtesy of aunt
  41. and uncle :) ).  Any comments, questions, suggestions.
  42.    Since we'll be getting the Japan rail pass, I figure that we'll go
  43. to Kyoto, especially since I've heard that Kobe isn't too interesting
  44. a place.  Since I really like architecture and temples, I've been told
  45. Kyoto is the place to go.
