- I've never been to Sun Valley, but I really like Blackcomb! I've been
- there once and am going back in a couple of weeks. I have seen maps of Sun
- Valley and they don't really entice me to go. Blackcomb is awesome though!
- There is so much terrain that it boggles the mind.
-
- The Seventh Heaven detachable quad dumps 1200 people an hour on top of the
- mountain and they just disappear. I've didn't ever have to stand in a line
- for that chair either. It dumps people on top of a ridge and you can go
- off 5 distinct ways. 1) Straight down the chair (easy or hard) 2)
- Straight off the front (down the Horstman Glacier) 3) Down the ridge and
- into and into the Saudan (sp) Couloir 4) or into the Secret Bowl (and the
- double diamond chutes out of it) 5) or down the trail into the bottom of
- the Horstman Glacier. From here you get a whole mess of other choices,
- like between Staircase, Waterfall, The Bite and Overbite (all steep mogul
- runs) down to the Jersey Cream chair (now a detachable quad). Plus there's
- a new chair up the Horstman Glacier to access a whole mess of other new
- terrain, including the bowl outside the boundary of the resort (it used to
- be a _serious_ hike to the gate).
-
- Of course, Blackcomb has another 3000 feet of runs below these, but those
- are generally intermediate with scattered advanced and I save them for the
- end of the day. Throw in Whistler which is a similar mountain right next
- door and I believe that this is one of the premiere resorts in North
- America. Toss in the difference between the Canadian and US dollars (about
- 17% lower than US last August) and it's cheaper too.
-
- I suspect that Sun Valley can't compare with Whistler/Blackcomb.
