- Right on! I *love* to ski backwards (is that why my friends call me
- a backwards kind of guy?). You're on your way to learning "How the
- Bozos Ski", as outlined in the instant-classic by Wayne Trzyna.
- Skiing backwards is part of the natural progression towards attaining
- the propeller-like motion of your skis.

-
- "gave it a whirl" - Jeez, Randal, you're a *natural* - you've even using
- the lingo! ;-)

-
- Ah, but looking behind you is easy too! As you make each turn, it's
- a natural motion to look over your shoulder. Give it a try next time
- you're out.
-

-
- The next step is be aware of the weighting of your skis, and edging.
- You can quickly progress from traverse to backwards parallel.
-
- >Too much fun. I'll have to try it some more when I go up Sunday.
-
- One of my favorite pasttimes to do with advanced skier friends is a
- variation on "crack the whip". The only pre-requisite is being able
- at least to do a non-clumsy 360-degree hockey-stop turn.
-
- It's easiest with two people.
-
- First, assume traverse position on a fairly steep beginner hill,
- with each person facing opposite directions, towards each other,
- one person higher on the hill. Each person holds both poles in
- their right hand, and with the left hand, you grab the end of
- your partners poles. Next, the uphill person starts forwards
- down the hill, and the downhill person begins to ski backwards.
- As the forwards skier initiates their turn, the backwards skier
- reverses their edges, and both skiers turn about 180 degrees.
- Now, the forwards skier is skiing backwards, and the backwards
- skier is now skiing forwards. Repeat until you fall over from
- dizziness.
-
- Wayne, you're welcome to add this to your book - maybe a sequel,
- "How the Bozos Play" :-)
