- This summer, I was fortunate enough to find myself in Jackson Hole, and
- there were bargains galore. I picked up a Hot Chillies jacket, and
- impressed enough to do a review of it:
-
-
- Warmth: Warmest fleece-type garment I've ever worn (cf. Patagonia, Taiga).
- It's big and lofty, and traps a lot of air.
-
- Wind: It's not windproof, you'll need to wear a shell over it in
- typical skiing weather.
-
- Waterproof: no
-
- Durability: unknown
-
- Material: Mostly polyester, with a bit of cotton thrown in. There are
- other materials which feel better on the skin, but this jacket will rarely
- be used without a layer or two underneath.
-
- Styling: well, that's a personal thing, but I have received a few "nice
- jacket" compliments. I'd prefer that clothing manufacturers leave
- their labels on the inside of clothes however.
-
- Drawbacks: If you throw it a hot dryer, it will shrink (fortunately I
- bought it too big, fits perfectly now :). Also, it's so lofty, that you
- may find it really fills up your shell, may restrict movement slightly and
- contribute to the "Michelan Man" look. Not so much so however that your
- arms stick straight out at your sides. Only other drawback is that it may
- actually be too warm for some people and situations!
-
- Price: ?? (I got it on sale for less than $60)
-
- Other options: I saw some similar jackets at a chain of stores called
- "Emporium" the other day. As best as I could tell, they were almost
- identical, without the "Chillies" label. $44, and likely to be an even
- better buy during the post-Christmas sales. (Now I have something to get
- for that certain someone who likes my jacket so much she steals it every
- chance she gets :) If there's enough interest, I can try to find out
- who makes the clones.
-
- All-in-all, a welcome addition to my stable of ski wear, I've used it
- extensively camping and skiing a few times this year, and predict it's
- going to see a lot more use in its day.
