  47. The reason is fairly simple.  It is a marketing ploy.  There are no mountains
  48. in any of the above mention states.  Spirit Mountain has about 500 vertical
  49. feet of skiing.  Most areas in Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Michigan average
  50. under that for vertical.  The area with the most vertical is Lutsen, which
  51. is an hour or two North of Duluth.  Even further North at Thunder Bay you
  52. can get vertical feet in the range of 700-800(I'm a bit rusty on that fact
  53. since it was fifteen years ago).
