  18. Welcome to rec.scouting, the newsgroup for boy and girl scouts, 
  19. cub scouts, venturers, rovers, scout leaders and all people 
  20. interested in scouting, worldwide.

  22. In this group, we discuss issues relevant to scouting activities,
  23. and the administration of scout units, sollicit advice from other 
  24. netters on what to do in certain situations, and generally seek and 
  25. provide support and encouragement with respect to scouting.

  27. This is a group intended for both scouts and leaders. Although 
  28. postings from leaders predominate, scouts and cub scout groups are 
  29. encouraged to use this group to exchange ideas and to set up a 
  30. contact with other groups in other places around the world.

  32. This document introduces new readers to the prefered Etiquette 
  33. for rec.scouting and to the compilation of files of Frequently Asked 
  34. Questions (FAQ).

  36. If you have a useful item that hasn't been included in this FAQ,
  37. please do all of us the favour. Write it up and post it on 
  38. rec.scouting. Drop me a copy too to make sure that I include it 
  39. in this file.

  59. Most of the guidelines here are the same as in news.announce.newusers.  
  60. However, they bear repeating from time to time.

  62. o   Please do not "flame" (insult) anyone in this newsgroup.  
  63.     Flames belong in private mail.  Discussions will naturally
  64.     bring disagreements, however, rebuttals should always be made
  65.     in a rational, logical and mature manner in public.  
  66.  
  67. o  rec.scouting has a strong worldwide scope. Many readers are 
  68.    outside of your country and will not understand terms which are 
  69.    proper to your own scouting organization. Please keep this in mind 
  70.    when setting up an article or a reply and include some basic 
  71.    background information so that everyone can understand.

  73. o  Please limit the amount of material included from previous
  74.    postings as much as possible, and try to be concise.  
  75.    However, make sure that you include enough of the original
  76.    post so as to make your follow-up sensible.

  78. o  Please re-edit your Subject and Newsgroup lines before sending
  79.    a follow-up. Replies in the third round rarely have a direct
  80.    relation to the original subject.

  90. Rec.Scouting has a compendium of answers to frequently asked questions.
  91. As for all FAQ files, the idea is to free Usenet from cyclic issues
  92. and give room to new topics.

  94. The answers have been grouped into different files according to their
  95. topic. There are currently eight FAQ files available:

  97. #0: Introduction to Rec.Scouting and to the FAQ files (this file)
  98. #1: Skits, Yells & Creative Campfires
  99. #2: Scouting around the World
  100. #3: Games (split into two parts for size reasons)
  101. #4: Unit Administration

  104. #7: Fund Raising Ideas

  106. The FAQ files are posted in regular intervals (one file every three
  107. or four days) on rec.scouting and news.answers. They can also be
  108. retrieved through anonymous FTP from ural.ethz.ch (path: rec.scouting/).
