  13. This is a list of books I have found useful, with short comments. 
  14. Books on pyrotechnics are rarely reviewed; the only ones I have seen are
  15. those in Pyrotechnica. 
  16.  
  17. There _are_ books on explosives and theatrical effects, too, but I have
  18. (intentionally) left these out; maybe someone more familiar with them 
  19. could post another list.

  21. Many people have complained that Pyrotechnica Publications, one of the
  22. best sources of pyrotechnic literature, processes orders extremely slowly.
  23. This is sad, especially since their material is excellent.

  29. This is a short list of books on pyrotechnics. An asterisk (*) indicates
  30. books I have read (and would willingly send more info about), two asterisks
  31. indicates books I have read and found especially valuable.

  40.      This is an excellent review of current practices of today's fireworks
  41.      amateurs and professionals. 200 pages full of practical information,
  42.      but the reader is expected to know the basics. Still, even for a
  43.      novice, it is worth every penny.

  106. If the Shimizu's classic book (see below) didn't quite answer your questions,
  107. try these. Fireworks from a Physical Standpoint is still the best scientific
  108. treatise of fireworks and their technology.

  132. This is probably the best single book available. If you can't afford anything
  133. else, buy this one. Many people refer it to as "The Shimizu's book".

  144. Conkling's text is an excellent starting point. If you are a novice, try to get
  145. hold of this one. Somewhat easier to read than Shimizu's Fireworks from a
  146. Physical Standpoint, but the chemistry is treated in detail.

  158. Weingart is another classic text, containing detailed info on the construction
  159. of gerbs, pinwheels, grasshoppers and all those nice small pretty devices.
  160. However, the materials and formulas they used prior to 1947 are somewhat
  161. questionable for today's safety conscious pyrotechnists.

  164. In addition to books, there exists a journal (serial?) called Pyrotechnica.
  165. Excellent and detailed articles on pyrotechnics - although somewhat more
  166. expensive than the books. 14 issues have been published. Pyrotechnica is
  167. _the_ Journal everyone is referring to.

  169. Subscribing to American Fireworks News and being a member of PGI (in order
  170. to receive the PGI Bulletin) is another recommended way of learning more.
