  29. I won't say there are no bigots in the Society -- but given how central
  30. tolerance and open-mindedness are to our ideals of honor and courtesy, I
  31. suspect that bigoted people find the Society rather uncongenial. 
  32. Still, the Society is certainly not a statistical microcosm of America--
  33. there are a disproportionately large number of Jews, for instance,
  34. and of college graduates.  Nevertheless, there are minorities here, and
  35. there always have been:  The principal of the Pelican in the East,
  36. Master El of Two Knives, is Black; the founder of the Great Dark Horde,
  37. Master Yang the Nauseating, is of Philippine ancestry; the seneschal
  38. of Carolingia, Master Kobayashi Yutaka, is of Japanese descent -- you
  39. get the idea.
