- Good milord William, I find merit with most of your commentary.
- (yeah, I knoooow, big deal, huh? ;>) I did have a couple of minor
- quibbles, which I'll get to in a minute. I did note that some of
- your ideas would be overly restrictive if all were used. For instance,
- if you could/did go to the once-every-3-years crown tourney, *and* you
- used the limited-list idea (this one for knights, this one for...),
- then somebody who hit the cycle wrong would have to wait 9 years before
- they could enter a Crown list. (Hmmmm, that might not be so bad, at
- least you'd know they knew what your SCA was all about ;^> )
- "E> that it becomes a real "ennoblement". Put it on the same level as
- "E> today's kingdom "orders of high merit". Make AoA required for the

- In this, you've recreated a stratification that the SCA has specificly
- avoided. When I joined, I was told that all SCA folks are assumed to be noble. All nobles may have and display armoury. As a herald, I'd
- rather see a restriction that only registered armory be displayed.
- Perhaps a person allergic to waiting could start displaying arms once
- it passed the Kingdom level, although I personally am too lazy to waste
- my efforts in the decorative arts on any but the sure thing.

- You can pretty well drop this one out as soon as you get a few "local"
- peers. Each kingdom has their own peerage flavorings.....

- I know I should wait for Tibor before I open my mouth, but I was 95%

- "E> Given my experience with American SCAdians, I think that one thing is

- Quite true -- a large percentage of us got our ideas about the Middle
- Ages from bad movies and what we've learned in the SCA. It can take
- quite a few years in before personal research starts occuring, and even
- then the group has to be moderately supportive of the idea. I started
- in the SCA in a group where cabaret belly-dancers and potato casseroles
- were the norm. (and the local library stank so far as the middle ages
- were concerned) Once I moved to a bigger city, with adults in the SCA
- and a better library to start from, I got encouraged to really do some
- research.
- In rereading your missive for the quoter, I came up with a question that might help define some of this. Why do you want to be in the SCA?
- Seriously, I'm interested in your answer. So far as I can see, you
- want to toss virtually the entire structure. What is the benefit to you of conducting your medieval re-creations under the auspices of the SCA?
- Fascinatedly,
