  21. On the first point, I'll have to defer to My Lady Wife or to His
  22. Grace--I wasn't there--or perhaps to Meisteren Teresia who did
  23. extensive research on the happenings at that Event.

  25. For the sencond point....  Yes.  Originally the Laurel covered All
  26. Else and a number of folks were awarded the Laurel for Service.  At
  27. least one--Mistress Geraldine of Toad Hall--asked to 'turn in' her
  28. Laurel for a Pelican when the Board released the bird to the Kingdoms
  29. on the grounds that her Laurel was for service and the Pelican was more
  30. appropriate.  In her case, her efforts in cooking and teaching cooking
  31. were deemed to make her deserving of the Laurel anyway--and she wound
  32. up getting the Pelican in addition.

  34. I should note here that the Pelican suffered in reputation in it's
  35. early years.  It was created by the Board to be a *Board* awarded
  36. Peerage--and that's how the first few were awarded.  Under pressure
  37. from the kingdoms, first the Pelican was 'released' to the Kingdoms
  38. (permitting the Royalty to award it) and then the Board got completely
  39. out of the business of doing *anything* within the Medieval ambiance
  40. of the Society.  For those of you who think wistfully of the Good Old
  41. Days of AS-Single-Digits, please bear in mind that they were also the
  42. Bad Old Days with fights as bad or worse than the ones we have now.
