- ANNOUNCEMENT
-
- For many years the Society for Creative Anachronism has been well-served
- by its staff structure, specifically the office of Steward. Growth and
- an ever-increasing level of activity within the SCA in recent years,
- however, has taxed the capacity of this structure to the absolute limit.
-
- The Board of Directors has intensively analyzed the needs of the SCA for
- a staff pattern which will provide a sustainable model for growth and
- continuity of the organization. From this study has come the roots of a
- refined internal corporate structure which will allow the SCA to meet
- its increased needs at an administrative level.
-
- Under this structure, and in keeping with Board decision made over the
- past two years, the position of Steward as it is currently constituted
- will cease to exist following the July 1993 meeting of the Board of
- Directors.
-
- Transition to a new corporate structure more attuned toward separation
- of the organizations day-to-day business from its medievally-oriented
- existence will begin with the formulation of a new senior executive
- position, that of Executive Director. The Executive Director will assume
- some leadership, legal and corporate responsibilities previously
- required of the Steward's office, but will function in a new way as a
- non-voting member of the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will
- also be in charge of a structure which will likely include more emphasis
- on Corporate Office assignments, and a medievally-oriented volunteer
- structure which could include some new positions still being defined,
- such as that of Corporate Seneschal.
-
- The Executive Director Position is more fully described in the following
- advertisement. The Board intends to seek qualified candidates from both
- within the SCA and outside the organization, from the professional
- management community.
-
- The Board asks that qualified individuals carefully consider their
- response to this search, and send letters of application and resumes
- (you may wish to include a separate SCA resume) to the SCA Corporate
- Office, P.O. Box 360743, Milpitas, CA 95036-0743, marked "Attention:
- Executive Director." Applicants may write to this address to request
- additional information, including a prospectus and job description;
- such requests will be answered on an individual basis.
-
- EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SCA Inc.
-
- The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc is seeking to fill the
- newly-defined position of Executive Director by July 1993. This is a
- full-time paid position as chief executive officer of the SCA, Inc.,
- and supervisor of the Office Manager (for administrative and staff
- functions) and the Corporate Officers (for medievally-oriented line
- functions) the latter either directly or through the Corporate Seneschal.
- The Executive Director will be a non-voting member of the Board of
- Directors, and ex-officio member of selected Board committees. The
- office of Executive Director will have primary responsibility for public
- and government relations, for internal training, and for other functions
- as determined by the Executive Director and the Board. Working
- conditions will include limited travel and irregular hours, including
- evenings and weekends. The Executive Director may elect to work either
- at home or (space and location permitting) in the SCA's Corporate
- Office. The ideal candidate will have experience in the non-profit
- sector. Specific skills will include as many as possible of the
- following: finance, Management Information Systems (MIS), planning,
- personnel management, legal, publishing, public relations, and
- training. Proven ability to motivate and manage volunteer workers,
- especially at long distance, is an important factor.
