-
- This "group" has to be one of the most overhyped "rock legends"
- around. The Crucial Three was Julian, Ian McCulloch and Pete Wylie
- (later of Wah! Heat), plus a drummer, sometimes. They never played a
- gig, only rehearsed a few times, and were, by the reports of the
- protagonists, pretty much of a joke. This is only "public domain" in
- the most marginal sense, and no more so than any group of wankers that
- made grunge in a basement. However, the urge to make "rock family
- trees" and invent supergroups has inflated its reputation to "seminal
- punk band status" which it really doesn't deserve.

- After this "group" "split" he went on to be in the Mystery Girls (one
- gig, with Wylie), the Nova Mob (one gig, with Wylie), A Shallow
- Madness (rehearsals only, with McCulloch), and finally, a year or so
- later, the first Teardrop Explodes lineup. In other words, his
- professional career really didn't get underway until the Teardrop got
- started.
