- Paul, I don't know how to send e-mail to your uucp address (do you have
- an internet address?). I'll ask my questions using r.m.r.
-
- I believe I talked to you at LDRS this past year. Were you the one with
- the two stage rocket using a LOC magnum as the upper stage? I remember
- talking to someone who was doing that and they had designed an external
- stage coupler (rather than the normal internal coupler). Was that you?
-
- Anyway, I'm designing my first HPR two stager (Adept Rocketry makes it
- look so easy) and I really like the idea of using an external coupler.
- While it may not look as aerodynamic as an internal coupler, it has some
- nice "modular" aspects since the upper stage does not need to be
- designed/built to accommodate the coupler mechanism. You should be able
- to build one coupler for three fin upper stages and one for four fin
- rockets; the booster could use either (screws would be used to attach
- the coupler to the booster for easy swapping).
-
- I wonder if there is a problem with air pressure buildup using an
- external coupler that would tend to cause premature separation at high
- volocities?
-
- Did you put your staging electronics in the booster? Did you use the
- boosters motor ejection to pop the boosters 'chute?
-
- I just ordered Adept's Barometric Altimeter with triggers. I plan on
- using this to control the ejection events in the upper stage. That way
- I will not have to run simulations to figure out delay times. Put the
- intelligence in the rocket, not on the ground!
-
- If you can respond via e-mail that is fine, else use r.m.r.
-
- BTW: Are you planning on flying your K->K at LDRS this year? I'm
- planning to have my two stager ready by then. A K550 to a K250 would be
- a great combination!!
