- Tangential to this discussion: I saw an interesting martial adage the
- other day "If my opponent doesn't move, I don't move. If my opponent moves, I
- hit them first."
-
- back to the subject:
- Having worked in restaurants and other service positions, I agree
- that being polite to people when they are actively exploiting your politeness
- to abuse you some more is a frustrating experience. The most common reaction is
- along the lines of "I _was_ being nice, and you didn't appreciate it, now I'm
- going to smash your face!"
- Have you ever sparred against someone who makes stupid noises, and
- fake attacks to try and intimidate you? But if you keep a clear head, and don't
- get sucked into it all, you can see that none of that stuff is very
- threatening. They can yell and wave their body all they want, but it's all just
- harmless posing.
- Its annoying, but nothing that's dangerous. So there's no need to react
- to it.
- Of course, if it gets dangerous, you should hit them first :-)
