- was a devout believer in Shinto. He later followed Deguchi Onnisaburo
- in the Omotokyo religion. Some dojos begin by clapping their hands
- before doing the bow to O Sensei -- this is a Shinto tradition
- (Buddhists rub hands, Shintoists clap).
