- Oh dear. Was I supposed to CLEAN my torches?
-
- I wouldn't worry too much about cleaning your torches. Wipe off
- the excess soot with a cloth after each use and you can leave it at that.
- After all, your only going to set fire to them the next time you use them.
- If you have trouble getting to torches to go out you can use a water
- soaked cloth or towel to smother them. You can also use a "Hell Box" to
- put out the torches. The Hell Box is some container that doesn't burn -
- metal is good - where you can let the torches burn themselves out. You
- need a closed box so that the fire consumes the oxygen in the container and
- the fire dies out. You don't want to wait for the fuel on the wicks to
- run out because then the wicks themselves begin to burn.
-
- A great Hell Box can be made using an army surplus ammo box. They
- are metal, have sealed lids and are designed to carry things about the
- size of a juggling club. They are also very cheap. I use mine to carry
- around all fire stuff this helping to contain some of the smell.
