- Well, who better than me to suggest tapes that I like (g>? With that, here's
- a brief overview of the tapes available now:
-
- 1988: The first real video (there was one in 1984, which I have, but
- the quality is very poor and I doubt that real copies are around.
- It is fun, however, to see Dan Bennett and others way back when...)
- Anyway, on to the tape. This is a good overview of the ideas and
- some brief history of conventions and how we got to the kinds of
- conventions we have now. Good performances from The Phillipine
- Pride Jugglers, The Gizmo Guys, Peter Davison, and others. The
- video and sound quality is good also. Special interest items:
- A great montage for Club Renegade, and watching Waldo throw knives
- at Robert Nelson. I recommend this one.
-
- Airborne! (1989): Ok, but not the greatest. The move toward the
- more "artistic" side wasn't so hot, but getting Anthony on tape
- doing 7 torches was worth something. Overall, this one is pretty
- weak. If you're not a junkie like me, you can skip this one.
-
- 1990: First year for the "real" 2-tape stuff. The highlights
- tape is ok, but it had a tendency to drag a little bit. The
- championships tape is superb, however. The juggling is good and
- the video quality is excellent. This is a good choice.
-
- 1991: This is the best highlights tape in recent times. It's
- a good overview, covers the important stuff well, and I like the
- way the narration is done and combined with the images. The
- Club Renegade stuff suffers from poor video quality, as do the
- staged events, but then, it wasn't much of a stage compared with
- other years, so it's not that bad. The highlights tape is good,
- but the quality isn't that grand, as mentioned above. The best
- part of the championships tape, IMO, is Tuey Wilson's club
- swinging routine to Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption". Good stuff.
-
- I hope that helps. For more details, email me.

-
- Search me. Maybe Gulko didn't want someone to steal it? Who knows? The
- point is, it's a pity that it's not there, it IS hysterically funny.
-
- And, just in case I don't get back in the newsroom beforehand, Merry
- Xmas and Happy New Year to everyone, and I'll see some of you soon in Vegas!
