- Ok, I did the same thing as Robert (bought a Mossberg 500 shotgun).
- Mine came with 2 barrels (18" for "social" occasions, and 28" vent rib
- for going trap and skeet shooting). Mossberg is offering a special
- deal: If you order before 12/31/92, they will sell you another barrel
- for about 50% of retail (e.g. 28" vent rib, with one choke tube: $62).
-
- My Question: How do I clean this thing??? I've owned Colt M1911's and
- bolt action rifles, but I've never had to clean a shotgun. The manual
- has _great_ dissasembly instructions, but the cleaning section is:
-
- 'Buy a cleaning kit, and follow their directions.' :-(
-
- Ok, so how _DO_ I clean it? What tools/products should I use?
-
- My first idea is:
-
- Use a bronze brush ( a BIG one!), and Hoppes #9 or bench rest.
-
- Next, run a bathtowel (GAWD this is a big bore!) (or a large patch)
- in a cleaning jag. Repeat with patches until clean.
-
- (This is about the same method I use for the .45ACP). Ok so far.
-
- Now, what, where and with what do I lubricate the action? What do I
- use on the action bars, the shell elevator, ...
-
- How often should I detail strip it?
-
-
- Thanks in advance for any information.
