- #I've heard that someone once made--or makes-- an M-1 carbine chambered for
- #9mm parabellum. Since it strikes me that this could possibly be a Good

- #critter.
- #
- #I _think_ it was/is made by Iver Johnson, but I can't find any references
- #to it in my books at home. I'd like to know if these things are still being
- #made, and what I can expect to pay for one. Also, if you've shot one, I'd
- #like to know about reliability, accuracy, and quality.

- #Yes, I know about the Marlin Camp Carbine, and that's a possibility also.
- #However, I'd prefer a gas-operated M-1 style gun, since I have a theory
- #that it would not have the drawback of shooting as "dirty" as the Camp
- #Carbine. (Refutations of my theory are welcome 8^)

- The 9mm M1 was indeed made by Iver Johnson. It appeared regularly in
- distributor catalogs until a few months ago, and it may very well be dead
- now. It was quite a bit more expensive than the Camp Carbine.
-
- Don't count on the 9mm M1 being gas operated. This would entail substantial
- redesign of the gas system, and a modification to pure blowback would be
- simpler and cheaper, as Colt did with their 9mm AR-15.
-
- I also thought about this piece, but since I already own both an M1 and
- a Camp Carbine I decided to pass. One nice feature was that it used the
- Hi Power magazine interface, which would give it commonality with my
- Hi Power and my AGM.1 carbine, whereas the Camp Carbine uses the S&W
- 59-series magazine interface.
-
- In GUN WEEK, Waldo Lydecker, the Industry Editor, mentioned that the
- Camp Carbine has been quite successful in the police market despite not
- being marketed there, and that Ruger plans to introduce a 9mm Mini-14
- which will probably be a "law enforcement only" item.
