- I also have had a worm compost bin for about 9 months. The book is
- great for answering all question. The bin I actually built was from
- a NY Times article (I can post plans if interested).
-
- The bin works like magic. Its about 3' wide (front) by 2' high and
- 2.5' deep (front to back). It has a lid and is very inconspicuous.
- That size processes the garbage for 4 college-age guys (one is a
- vegetarian). I put almost exclusively organic things in (old
- lettuce, apple cores, etc) but you can also put in pasta, bread,
- cheese, etc. etc. Meat is a bad idea, though.
-
- The smell is, like Kelly said, just like dirt. Occasionally things
- get two wet or not aereated enough, but the smell has never been
- detectable outside the box.
-
- I must add, that the garbage we send to the landfill has greatly
- decreased (and don't fool yourself into thinking the garbage
- disposer is any better than the landfill...).
-
-
- If anyone has any other questions, post and I'll be glad to try and
- answer. But in the meantime, buy the book!
