- Christmas cacti seem to go dormant after flowering. Continue watering them
- and giving them some sun. They need not be watered as heavily as when they
- were flowering but the roots should not be allowed to dry out completely.
- They can be kept cool but this isn't mandatory.
- Coolness and shortness of days are what causes buds to set in the fall.
- They should not be fertilized after flowering, only when setting buds,
- flowering, and growing in the summer. At these times, a weak fertilizer
- low in nitrogen may be given but no more than once every two weeks
- (according to the experts). I don't fertilize mine until the soil is at
- least a year old.
-
- Sometimes mine will put on a second showing a couple of months after flowering
- when I will water a little more and may again fertilize.
