- The New RSA clients had nothing to do with dealing with this 'problem'. It's a
- server hack and a half.
-
- But it leads to some interesging questions on how to deal with people 'sCumming'
- in this faschion. How to restrict it.
-
- 1) You could try to restrict numbers of logins from the same machine. But this
- has its problems. Consider the people playing from Xterminals with their netrek
- client running on some reasonably hot machine. As far as the netrek server
- knows, they're all playing from the same place, even though their X displays
- really are different.
- Also, people using things like 'trekhopd' to get through internet
- firewalls appear to the server to all be playing from the firewall.
-
- 2) You could try to restrict the number or the same account logged into the
- server. But this isn't too good either: Lots of people 'share' accounts to
- play netrek -- this ranges from people logging in their friends to play to
- such security nightmares as 'public' netrek accounts.
-
-
- So, the question is, how to deal with the multi-login scummers without harshing
- on the 'legitimate' players whose netrek access is through these means...
-
- Think about it; post suggestions...
