- Presumably the point behind self extraction is that the new user
- doesn't have to find a program which can uncompress the file. I have
- wondered whether the self extracting zip file causes more confusion
- than it fixes. As the archivist, I have gotten quite a few questions
- about why running this file crashes their machine. Does anyone have
- any comments on this?

- If running the file causes your system to hang, or other bizarre
- effects, then the file is corrupted. Self extracting zip files like
- this one are still legal zip files, so you can use pkunzip or unzip on
- the file directly rather than trying to use the self extraction to get
- clear evidence (without hanging your machine) that the file is
- corrupted.
