- High (and low) lights of my trip to Las Vegas for the Harrah's/Las Vegas
- Advisor Invitational held this past Sunday and Monday. (In no particular
- order.)
-
- - A two hour late plane due to mechanical problems and head winds.
-
- - Meeting several rec.gamblers.
-
- - Having my team in the slot and blackjack tournaments beat out Anthony
- Curtis's, Arnold Snyder's and Stanford Wong's (we took third place).
-
- - *Finally* having a winning session at the Frontier.
-
- - Having one of my team mates playing at the same table with Anthony Curtis in
- the blackjack tournament and coming down to the last hand $1,000 behind.
- He's dealt a pair of 10's as is Curtis. Both split the 10's to get the
- money on the table. We draw a 21 and a 19. Curtis draws some 10's and gets
- to resplit to four hands ranging from 19 to 21. The dealer shows a 10 and
- busts. Curtis beats us by $2,000 (but we still won the tournament because
- the same team member came in first in the slot tournament with 14,000 points
- where the average was well under 6,000 points. (Such skill!)
-
- - Learning that Harrah's had, after analyzing the hold for Sunday, ordered
- dealers at the double deck game to cut off a full deck. This maked no sense
- to any of us because the game was lousy in the first place and no one with
- any skill was playing there seriously.
-
- - A 2 hour bull session in the Coffee Shop until 1:30am on Tuesday with
- Snyder, Wong, and Sam Case, with Wong telling stories about blackjack in
- Macau in the old days.
-
- - Falling asleep at 4pm on Monday and missing my own slot tournament session.
- (Good for carpal tunnel syndrome!)
-
- - Seven card stud at the Mirage: get a 7 and a K down, and a 7 up (with a
- third 7 visible on the board). Catch a second K at fourth street, the case
- 7 at fifth street (7's full of K's), the third K at sixth street (K's full
- of 7's) and the case K at seventh street (4 K's!) *And* I was able to get
- at least one player to bet along with me the whole way (with her measly
- flush made in the first 5 cards).
-
- - Meeting the developer of the World Series of Poker Adventure.
-
- - Singing Karaoke at the welcome party. (This was a highlight for me, but a
- lowlight for the rest of the folks at the party.)
-
- - Paying a $3.00 hotel bill at the Flamingo Hilton, and a $1.00 hotel bill at
- Harrah's.
-
- In short, I had a blast.
