  15. I am on the board of directors of the US Lipizzan Registry and
  16. we've been getting some inquiries from folks who want to
  17. register their half-Arab, half-Andalusian as Lipizzans.  Since
  18. we've gotten a number of inquiries, this (mis-)information must
  19. be coming from some widely available source.  Has anyone heard
  20. that an Arab+an Andalusian=Lipizzan???

  22. To set the record straight, the USLR only registers horses that
  23. have a five generation pedigree of Lipizzans from the established
  24. lines (Favory, Pluto, Conversano, Neopolitano, Maestoso, Siglavy,
  25. and Tulipan).  They will register as a half 
  26. Lipizzan, a horse with one purebred parent.  Contrary to popular
  27. belief, Lipizzans are not derived from Andalusians--these breeds
  28. have some common ancestors.  And although the Lipizzan has some
  29. Arab blood (as do many modern breeds) the breed has been established
  30. for 400 years.

  32. I sincerely hope that folks have not been misled into breeding
  33. their Arabs to Andalusians or vice versa thinking that they'd
  34. have a registerable Lipizzan foal (although I'm sure that makes
  35. a nice cross).  I would expect that the foal would be registerable
  36. as a half-Arab--I don't know if the Andalusian registry accepts
  37. half-bred or part-breds.

  40. happy to answer any questions anyone has about Lipizzans.  For
