- I had a whole new appreciation of torn ligaments after I popped the
- ligaments in my ankle while feeding hay to my friend's horses (don't
- ask :-)
-
- But, on the subject of bowed tendons... the farm I worked for (TB
- racehorses) deals with bows by blistering and keeping the horse on
- stall rest until the blister has finished. It looks ugly and is
- somewhat painful for a couple of days - we also put bibs or cradles
- on the horse so that he/she doesn't get blister on their face.~
-
- When the blister has done its job they are kept bandaged - usually in
- a sweat. They are handwalked for a week and depending on how they
- are doing, they then start regular turn-out, but in small (I mean 30
- x 30) paddocks. These are sand paddocks, so we feed hay. They
- eventually work their way back to a regular, large grass paddock.~
-
- We have one horse (who is for sale - see other post) who bowed and we
- have done this three times to make sure the bow is well set.~
