- I have a friend who has an Arabian mare that she suspects might be

-
- Amen!
-
- ... My recollection is vague, but this is what I think
- is true. CID is a recessive trait, so that if my friend's mare is
- a carrier, she'd have to be bred to another carrier to produce a
- CID foal, and even then would have a 25% chance of getting a CID
- foal. In that case, there's a 50% chance of getting a carrier and
- a 25% of getting a healthy non-carrier. Is this right?
-
- Exactly.
-
- Does anyone know if CID is more prevalent in some bloodlines than others?
- My friend's worries about her mare are based solely on the death of
- one foal sired by her mare's sire. The cause of that death was
- never determined, to her knowledge. Is there a test to see if a horse
- carries CID?

- To the best of my knowledge, there is currently no test for
- CID-carriers, other than the trial-and-error of breeding repeatedly to
- a known CID carrier, and waiting for a foal to die---not recommended!
