- You just reminded me of an anecdote I have to tell. To set it up
- properly, I was boarding my leopard App at a stables which mostly
- was patronized by your run-of-the-mill horse-crazy women. A new
- boarder showed up who was somewhat different; he was a distinguished
- looking middle-aged gentlemen with a foreign accent (French?) who
- owned a nice thoroughbred mare. He would come out and hack this mare
- around the indoor, always in a two-point position. We never
- saw him do any jumping, and as he was standoffish, he was the
- subject of much curiosity. He didn't really seem to know a lot
- about horses and we wondered about his background and what if
- anything he planned to do with the mare.
-
- Now to get to my story - one day as I was watching my horse romp
- around the outdoor arena during a turnout, this guy came up behind
- me and spoke to me for the first time. In his deep accent, he
- said, "You know, you have a very unique horse there." I immediately
- wondered what he could possibly mean, so I just went, "Oh?" He
- replied, "Yes, he has spots, just like a Dalmatian."
-
- I think Merlin was the first App this guy had ever seen! I was
- thinking about some snappy comebacks like, "Too bad he's gelded,
- maybe I could start a new breed" but of course I just politely
- mumbled something.
