-
- Well, some people keep a stallion to breed, but not as a buisiness.
- Some people keep colts entire until they are old enough to have proven
- themselves as performance horses (or not). And, some people have an
- attidude problem about gelding their horses, just as some folks
- won't have their dogs and cats "fixed".
-
- The one owner who falls into the latter category at our barn has
- been told repeatedly by everyone that both the horse and his handlers
- would be happier if he had him gelded, but he adamantly refuses.
- And, he is a competant horseman, the stallion is very well-behaved,
- and I don't think I'm really in a position to state categorically
- that this is wrong.
-
- I, personally wouldn't want to own a stallion under ANY of the above
- circumstances, I just don't think it would be worth the additional
- care and effort and worry. But I am not willing to say that NO ONE
- should keep a stallion except a breeder. That's *IF* they are
- willing to make sure the horse is handled properly and posess the
- requisite knowledge and experience to handle a stallion.
