- I guess I'm looking for something in between on this trip. I am an
- experienced climber (I spent this past May on Denali-- gulp!) but I'm
- taking two rock jocks up to give them experience in winter mountaineering.
-
- I just led a beginner's trip to Tuckerman's. It's perfect for what you
- describe right now, though later it will fill in with snow and
- Huntington's will be better (Diagonal and Central gullies are easy
- beginner's climbs; you might also consider Odell's).
-
- Please tell me does the Harvard Hut get crowded?
- What's their capacity? I was there in October but no one was around. Also,
- I know that in the summer camping is not permitted in Huntington Ravine but
- what about in the winter?
-
- The hut's official capacity is only 16 but there's generally always
- room. You can also camp outside in a few designated spots for a
- nominal fee I believe. There is no camping other than at these spots.
- You can call ahead to the Pinkham front desk to see if there's room.
- Also, you probably stay at the shelters at Hermit lake in Tuckerman's.
