- I travel alot on planes and use a walkman pro with Sony headphones for
- relaxation. The headphones are the top end (MDR-CD999) Sony units with the
- prime virtue of acoustic isolation. Unlike the cheap, walkman type units that
- pose as headphones, these offer isolation around the entire ear, kind of like
- the old KOSS PRO-4AA. It doesn't eliminate totally the jet noise but reduces
- it enough so that music can be enjoyed without blowing out your eardrums to
- get above jet plane ambient noise levels.
-
- Anyway, the next phase is to get a portable CD unit. What are the better
- sounding portable CD units out there? Note that I am NOT looking for something
- equivalent to what I would use in my home system!!!! While it need not be
- of Theta/Levinson quality, it should be listenable under the unique conditions
- of airplane travel. I plan to take my 999s into a few stores and audition
- various units in the next couple of weeks but would appreciate any recommendations
- from the group. Please respond with PERSONAL recommendations and not just,
- "I read somewhere....". I'd like to hear what YOU HEARD. In addition to
- audio quality, I am interested in resistance to vibration (i.e. does the
- laser jump?).
- I will post the results for those interested.
-
- Thanks in advance folks and happy holidays!!
