- (Please reply via mail to me, I'll post a summary if there is interest.)
- (I don't have reliable access to newsgroups.)
-
- I am currently in the process of repairing/refurbishing a quite old
- Harmon Kardon Citation II tube amp.
- This uses 4 x KT88/6550, and 6 x 12BY7A tubes, and some BIG xformers!
-
- Question 1:
- I'm looking for a good book that deals with tube-amp design and
- theory, preferably with a lot of examples.
-
- I'm thinking that if, once I'm finished, the amp doesn't sound as good
- as I want, I could rip out the circuit that is in it and wire in a
- pure-class-A circuit. (Or should I make it Class-A now, and not bother
- fixing it first?)
-
- Question 2:
- I have been trying to find a phone number or address for a magazine
- recommended to me: "Audio Amateur" Does anyone have an address or #
- for this magazine? Is this a good source for information on homebrew
- tube amp design?
-
- Question 3:
- I have heard a very broad spectrum of opinions on which output tube
- is best, the KT-88 or the 6550. Is there some kind of consensus among
- those in the know about tubes? (I was even told that KT-88's are known
- to EXPLODE a lot.)
-
- Thanks.
