- Audiophiles,
- I just finished reading through the FAQ, and I must say it's a
- well-written document. Congrats and thanks to those involved. I just started
- reading this newsgroup today, so excuse me if some of these questions have
- been asked recently.
- I am looking for recommendations on CD players and dual tape decks.
- I have a combined budget of ~$300 to work with, but would be willing to go
- slightly above for the right outfit (I'd settle for a good single CD player
- to fit in the range, but I'd be willing to go slightly above for a decent
- multi-player). I've already been out pricing and like some of the things
- I see. One particular option is the tape-editing system, where the CD player
- helps you program tracks for best fit on tapes. Technics has a nice system
- like that. I was wondering first of all if this would require brand-matching
- for the CD/Tape players (I figure yes, but I'm hoping no).
- I was also wondering how easy it is to get tape players with some of
- the nicer options without Auto-reverse. I have a personal distaste for them
- stemming from inconsistency of units I've heard so far.
- If this makes a difference, I'd like to be able to use the tape
- drive to mix down 4-track (local bar) demos onto, and also use to make copies.
- I also have some related questions that might be fitting for the
- FAQ.
-
- Tape:
- -I hear the names bandied about so much, but what exactly are the
- differences between all the noise reduction schemes (Dolby B,C, etc)?
- -It seems there are so many options available. What are some of the
- options, and who would/wouldn't want/need them? (I know it's at
- least mildly subjective, but...).
-
- CD:
- -Again, what are some of the more "popular" options, and what do
- they get me for the cost? I've already read about 1/3-beam, and
- 1/multi-bit in the FAQ. I see some units have signal processing on them
- to achieve different "sounds" (concert hall, disco, baseball stadium
- PA system, McDonald's Drive-Thru, etc...) (Sony in particular...).
- Is that something that the serious listener generally wants, or is it
- one of those general consumer "Oh, wow, it sounds like it's a concert
- hall! Can you make it sound like my shower?" type things?
- -I know some brands of carousel changers allow you to change discs
- while one is playing, and others don't. What brands do/don't?
-
- Well, I guess I've dragged this on long enough. any responses are
- welcomed. To save bandwidth I'd prefer E-mail response, and may post
- a summary depending on the response I get. Please specify in your
- responses if you DON'T want to be included in the summary, or if
- you don't mind being included if it's anonymous. Thanks in advance!
