  14. This is probably a FAQ, but if nobody ever-asked the question, it wouldn't be
  15. a FAQ, would it...?

  17. I've been thinking of replacing my Denon CD player (I think the model number is
  18. DCD 1200 Mark II) with a LD player which would also of course have a CD player
  19. built-in.  I've just begun looking at LD players, so I'm pig-ignorant about them,
  20. so, here come the questions.

  22. I want an LD player with a fiber output, so I can later purchase an outboard
  23. DAC.  Presuming that I do take this step, do all LD (and all CD players for
  24. that matter) players spit-out the same optical data for a given disc?  In other
  25. words, can a player manufacturer screw-up the digital data coming off of the
  26. disc?  (Error correcting comes to mind here).  If the only "audible" differences
  27. between players comes from the DAC portion (plus power supplies, etc), then with
  28. an outboard DAC, all CD/LD players should sound identical.  Is this a true
  29. statement?

  31. What is the resolution of the LD medium?  I've seen Pioneer LD players with 425 lines
  32. of resolution, do any other players do better, or is this number a function of
  33. the medium itself?  The best S/N ratio I've seen is 50 dB, is this also a function
  34. of the medium?

  36. Do any LD players perform picture enhancement, colour blooming removal, or any
  37. other DSP type functions on the video image?
  38.  
  39. I've looked briefly at the Pioneer 701, can anyone make any comments on this
  40. unit, or recommend other above-average LD players?
